Storms in the Clearwater area

The National Weather Service documented hail up to 4 inches near nearby Monticello and Big Lake on July 13-14, 2024, the largest of the event statewide.
The two kinds of damage look different on the roof. Hail leaves round bruises in the shingle mat and dents in vents and gutters, while wind folds tabs over and breaks the seal strips. An adjuster should see photos of both.
Clearwater sits where Interstate 94 meets Highway 24, so crews chasing storm work reach town fast. Ask any contractor for a Minnesota license number and a local office before you sign.

Storm damage repair cost in Clearwater

Most covered claims cost you only your deductible

Once the insurer approves a claim, it pays for the agreed scope and you owe the deductible, and that is how most covered Clearwater storm repairs end up. Some roofs come through a storm without damage that justifies a claim. If yours did, you will hear that from us instead of a sales pitch.

Minnesota law, plainly: After a storm, door-knockers promise all kinds of things, so know the rules: Minn. Stat. 325E.66 bars contractors from paying or waiving your deductible, and Minn. Stat. 326B.811 lets you cancel within 72 hours after a claim denial. The full notice is in the page footer.
What the adjuster sees

What a good Clearwater storm inspection documents

Roof. Test squares with hail hits counted and photographed, creased or missing tabs, bruised vents and ridge caps.
Gutters and downspouts. Dents on the storm side, which often show up before roof damage does.
Siding and trim. Cracks, punctures and chips on whichever wall faced the weather.
Soft metals. Flashing, vents and window wraps, where hail leaves clear marks.
The process

From inspection to finished roof

You open the claim with your insurer. We meet your adjuster at the house with our photos and measurements so nothing is missed. If the scope leaves items out, we send documentation for a second look. When the scope is approved, we schedule the work, and you owe your deductible plus any upgrades you choose.

Vetting a contractor

Five things to ask any storm contractor

A Minnesota contractor license number you can look up.
A local office address and a phone number a person answers.
A written scope that lists what is being replaced, in plain words.
Proof they will not pay, waive or rebate your deductible, because Minnesota law says they cannot.
No pressure to sign the same day as the inspection.
The first 48 hours

What to do right after the storm passes

Stay off the roof. From the ground, take photos of anything that looks wrong: dented gutters, torn shingles, debris. Keep any damaged pieces you pick up in the yard. If water is coming in, move belongings, catch the drip, and tell your insurer, since most policies expect you to prevent more damage. Then book an inspection so you know what is actually up there.

Better photos

What makes storm photos useful to an adjuster

A photo of a whole roof says little. An adjuster wants close-ups of the damage with something for scale, wider shots that show where on the roof it is, and a record of every slope, including the ones that look fine. Date-stamped photos tie the damage to the storm. When we inspect, we chalk and count hail hits per test square, photograph each one, and organize the images by slope and component, so the whole file reads clearly.

What homeowners say about Committed 365

★★★★★

"What great people to work with. They made the whole process very very simple from having cody or mitch come out to meet with the insurance adjuster to go over the damage that they found, to walking us through the claims department with the Mortgage Company and letting us know what's going on each and every step."

Storm Damage Repair in Clearwater: your questions

Out of my own pocket, what does a storm repair in Clearwater come to?

For a covered claim it is generally your deductible and nothing else, since the insurer pays the approved scope. Minnesota law does not let any contractor pay or waive that deductible for you.

How long do I have to file after a storm?

That depends on your policy, since deadlines vary. Check yours or ask your agent soon after the storm, and get the roof inspected so you know what you are dealing with.

Can you come when the adjuster does?

Yes. We arrive with photos and measurements so nothing is overlooked. Filing the claim and approving the work remain your decisions.

What happens if my insurer denies the claim after I have signed with a contractor?

Minnesota Statute 326B.811 gives you 72 hours from the insurer's denial notice to cancel a contract that was to be paid with insurance proceeds. Put that date on your calendar.
