What you are looking at
The color is the first thing you notice. Up close the shingles are a blend of blue-green, sage, sand and charcoal granules, and from the yard they read as a soft green-gray. It is a less common pick than plain gray or brown, and it suits a home surrounded by fields and trees.
The overhead drone view shows the layout clearly: a long main wing and a shorter wing meeting at a valley, a row of box vents along each ridge and a few plumbing vents. The garage end has a white overhead door and light stucco-finish walls.
When the old shingles came off, the roof decking was replaced as a change order. Decking is the plywood layer the shingles are nailed to, and a new roof only holds as well as the deck under it.
Along the back, a long wood deck with dark railings runs the full length of the wing. The roof edge photo shows the new shingles finishing over a white gutter right above it. A gray fabric storage building and a vegetable garden sit in the side yard.
Evergreen Mist is one of Owens Corning's Designer Colors, and the multi-tone blend sits on the same Duration shingle, SureNail strip and 130 mph wind rating included. On a Brainerd roof, a shingle that stays nailed flat in summer wind is also one that keeps drifting snow and meltwater from getting under the edges.
