What you are looking at
The first photo shows the roof itself: brown, tan and russet shingles meeting at a valley lined with brown metal. The valley metal has a raised center rib, which helps keep water coming off one roof plane from rushing across into the other during a heavy rain.
The rest of the photos walk around the house. The walls are wood-grain lap siding in a warm tan, finished with brown gutters, brown downspouts and dark window frames. On the back, three large windows look out from the upper level over the yard, and a wood privacy fence closes in the space under it.
Along the deck, a bay window has its own small roof. That cap was shingled in the same brown blend as the main roof, with short hips on each side trimmed to fit the angled window.
The lot is steep and wooded, and the photos were taken in early spring, with bare branches and last fall's leaves still on the ground.
What sits under the Desert Rose granules is SureNail, a woven reinforcing strip in the nailing zone that helps Duration hold in winds up to 130 mph, and the shingle carries a UL 2218 Class 3 impact rating. Nails that hold through a Brainerd summer storm are the same nails that keep wind-driven snow from lifting an edge in January. The CoreGuard package also put Owens Corning underlayment, starter, hip and ridge shingles and a VentSure ridge vent around the shingles. Owens Corning needs its hip and ridge plus at least two more of its own components before it backs a roof as a system, and the vented ridge helps keep the attic cold, which is what keeps ice dams from forming at the eaves.
