Alexandria's storm record

On May 12, 2022, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF1 tornado in Alexandria with estimated peak winds of 110 mph. The worst damage was in a neighborhood on the south shore of Lake Darling, and the tornado tracked across Lake Darling into southern Lake Carlos.
The same storm sent an 87 mph gust across a sensor on I-94 near Alexandria and 72 mph across the Alexandria airport, the National Weather Service told the Alexandria Echo Press.
Tornado and straight-line wind damage is mostly about what hit the roof and what peeled up: limbs, punctures, missing ridge caps and folded tabs. Hail adds round bruises and dented metal. A lake home claim needs all of it on record, siding and gutters too.

What it costs you

Storm damage repair cost in Alexandria

Most covered claims cost you only your deductible

An approved claim works like this: the insurer funds the repairs on its scope, and you are responsible for your deductible. That deductible is the only out-of-pocket cost on most covered storm work in Alexandria. Our photo-backed estimate is the same document your adjuster gets, and when a roof has no real storm damage, our answer is simply no.

Minnesota law, plainly: Out-of-town crews tend to arrive with big promises. Minnesota law draws the lines: Minn. Stat. 325E.66 bars contractors from paying or waiving your deductible, and Minn. Stat. 326B.811 lets you cancel within 72 hours after a claim denial. The full notice is in the page footer.
After the storm

When a storm hits while you are away from the lake

Plenty of Alexandria lake places sit empty for days or months at a time, and a storm does not wait for the weekend. If something blows through while you are gone, call us. We go out, look over every slope, wall, gutter run and outbuilding, and send you the photos the same way you would see them standing in the yard.

With that set in hand, you decide whether to call your insurer. If you file, we can meet the adjuster on site, so you do not have to make the drive just for the inspection. If the first scope leaves out siding, gutters or a detached garage that was hit, our photos support asking for a second look.

Building it back

From an approved scope to a finished roof

Once the insurer approves the work, we put it on the schedule and confirm the date with you, working around guests if the place is a rental. Your cost is the deductible plus any upgrade you pick, such as stepping up to an impact-rated shingle for the next storm.

Storm Damage Repair in Alexandria: your questions

What do I pay on an approved storm claim in Alexandria?

Your deductible, plus any upgrades you choose. The insurer pays its approved scope, and no Minnesota contractor is allowed to pay or waive that deductible.

Was my Alexandria home hit in the May 2022 storm?

If you are near Lake Darling or Lake Carlos, or anywhere the wind came through that night, it is worth checking if nobody has. Claim deadlines depend on your policy, so check yours or ask your agent. A free inspection shows what is on the roof today.

Do I have to be at the lake for the adjuster visit?

No. With your permission we can meet the adjuster on site with our measurements and send you a summary afterward. The claim and every decision on it stay yours.

Can a claim include my boathouse or detached garage?

Often other structures on the property are covered on the same claim, depending on your policy. We inspect and photograph them so they are not forgotten.
