What you are looking at
The lead photo looks across the finished roof toward the neighborhood. The shingles are a blue-gray blend, and a ridge vent runs along the peak at the left edge of the frame.
The garage is a gable-roofed building with white lap siding, a white overhead door, white soffit and fascia, and a gutter along the eave. With both roofs replaced on the same job, the house and garage now match.
Before the new shingles went on, the sections of decking that did not meet code were replaced. Older roofs sometimes sit on boards with wide gaps or sheathing too thin for today's requirements, and that only shows once the old layers come off.
Early April meant bare trees, a mix of older two-story homes and outbuildings along the back lots, and the first green coming up in the yard.
What sits under the Estate Gray granules is SureNail, a woven reinforcing strip in the nailing zone that helps Duration hold in winds up to 130 mph, and the shingle carries a UL 2218 Class 3 impact rating. On a Little Falls roof, a shingle that stays nailed flat in summer wind is also one that keeps drifting snow and meltwater from getting under the edges.
