Crosslake's storm record

On June 12, 2024, a National Weather Service-confirmed EF2 tornado followed a 3.2-mile path near Upper Whitefish and Clamshell lakes, west of Crosslake, and reports described a few homes losing more than half their roof deck.
Wind and falling trees are a major cause of damage on wooded lots. Branch strikes can puncture shingles and crack the deck without leaving much to see from the ground.
Hail, wind and falling limbs each leave their own marks. Hail bruises shingles and dents soft metal, wind lifts and creases tabs, and limbs puncture and crack. A solid claim file covers all three.

What it costs you

Storm damage repair cost in Crosslake

Most covered claims cost you only your deductible

An approved claim means the insurer pays the agreed scope and you pay the deductible, which is the normal outcome on covered Crosslake repairs. When a roof has no damage worth claiming, you will hear that from us rather than a push to file.

Minnesota law, plainly: After a storm, door-knockers promise all kinds of things, so know the rules: Minn. Stat. 325E.66 bars contractors from paying or waiving your deductible, and Minn. Stat. 326B.811 lets you cancel within 72 hours after a claim denial. The full notice is in the page footer.
Tree and wind damage

What we document after a tree or wind hit

The impact point. Where a branch or trunk hit, with close-ups of punctures and cracked shingles.
The deck. Boards under the impact, checked for cracks and soft spots from the attic side.
Flashing and vents. Anything bent, lifted or knocked loose by wind.
Siding and gutters. Scrapes, dents and pulled-away runs near the damage.
The claim

From adjuster visit to finished roof

You file the claim. We attend the adjuster visit with our photos and measurements, and if the scope leaves out damage, we send documentation for a second look. When the scope is approved, we schedule the work around your property and your calendar. You pay your deductible and any upgrades you choose.

Seasonal homes

After a storm when you are not at the property

If you hear about a storm while you are away, ask a neighbor or caretaker to look, and photograph anything they find. Tell your insurer promptly, since most policies expect you to prevent further damage. Then send us the access details: we inspect, photograph and report back to you, so you can make decisions from home.

Temporary protection

Keeping the weather out until the repair

After damage, many policies expect the owner to take reasonable steps to prevent more of it, such as covering an opening. Keep receipts for those costs and mention them to your insurer. If you are away, have a neighbor or caretaker handle the immediate protection, then send us the access details so we can document what happened before permanent repairs.

Storm Damage Repair in Crosslake: your questions

What is my share of a storm repair in Crosslake?

On a covered claim it is typically the deductible. The insurer pays the approved scope, and Minnesota law prevents contractors from paying or waiving it for you.

A tree came down on my cabin roof. Who do I call first?

Your insurer and a roofer you trust. We can photograph the damage, document it and meet your adjuster, but you decide who does the work.

Do you attend the adjuster visit?

We can. We bring photos and measurements to the visit. You file the claim and you decide on the work.

Is there a cancellation right if my claim is turned down?

Yes, for contracts to be paid from insurance proceeds. Minnesota Statute 326B.811 gives you 72 hours after the insurer notifies you of the denial.
