What you are looking at
The house has taupe vinyl lap siding with white window trim and an attached garage with its own roof line. The dark shingles give it a crisp outline against the lighter walls.
Most of the finished photos are taken from the ground and walk around the house: the front entry, the garage side, a corner with the gutter and fascia, the back deck, a bay corner by the deck door and the walkout lower level.
The roof edge close-up shows a bronze gutter and downspout tucked under the fascia above the front steps.
The back yard slopes down to a pond, with rock landscaping beds along the foundation and a raised wood deck off the main floor.
The roof has several levels: the main two-story block, a lower roof over the front entry and the garage roof to the side. The garage side photo shows where the lower roof meets the two-story wall.
Darker shingles tend to hide dirt and streaking better than light ones, which is part of why charcoal is such a common choice on homes with light siding.
Beyond the Onyx Black color, the reason for Duration is the SureNail strip, a woven fabric layer in the nailing zone that Owens Corning backs with a 130 mph wind rating and a UL 2218 Class 3 impact rating. On a Woodbury roof, a shingle that stays nailed flat in summer wind is also one that keeps drifting snow and meltwater from getting under the edges.
