What you are looking at
The shingles are a charcoal blend with blue-gray tones. Cream siding, a white-railed back deck and a wide, freshly striped lawn fill out the first two photos, shot from the back yard as the sun went down.
On the roof, box vents are lined up along the hip ridges and dark valley metal runs where the front gables tie into the main roof. A hip roof with several intersecting sections has many more hips and valleys than a plain gable, and those transitions are where most of the careful cutting happens on a job like this.
The last photo looks across the front of the house, where two smaller gables and a hip rise over the entry. Every one of those ridges is capped in the same charcoal as the field shingles.
From the roof you can see across the street to a row of newer homes with big garages and young landscaping, and a tree line along the back of the property.
Under the Slatestone Gray color, Duration is built around Owens Corning's SureNail strip, a woven fabric band in the nailing zone that gives each nail more to hold, and Owens Corning rates it for winds up to 130 mph and UL 2218 Class 3 impact. Nails that hold through an Alexandria summer storm are the same nails that keep wind-driven snow from lifting an edge in January.
